That's a re-mortgage the house price......and I though my D-Lux 5 was a bit on the expensive side...

Hmm, how do you handle a white camera? with black gloves?

Those that can afford one can probably afford two.
It would be difficult to keep it pristine.

Perhaps only used when in an Armani suit and going out for the evening hence the Noctilux :D :lol:

the black one goes with black suit, the white one with light suit. The white ones, be it Ricoh, Nikon, Pentax or Leica are lovely for weddings. The bride connects at once seeing the camera in color of her dress.
 
Here is another intrigue. This lens, a 1960 Leica 35mm f1.4 selling for €39.000,00 even though it has lost a bit of paint here and there.
I am guessing this would be a terrible miss-match on the GXR so will give this one a miss... :)

On a serious note, this must be for the rich 'must have' collector? The image cannot be THAT different from other Leica 35mms?

Wiener, you can see the result on my graffiti bar pict. Optically so so at full aperture, sharp and soft. The first edition was in chromed brass, heavy and beautiful workmanship. the next ones were in black lacquered aluminium, only helicoid was in brass. This is the first brass one but painted in black in FACTORY, few pieces.. That makes the difference. Just compare the price for regular Leica M3 and the black lacquered one, same case. Definitelly lens for collectors.

Thank you very much for the information! I had actually figured some of this out for myself as I found the newere one you describe selling for around €1500 on a Scottish site. A comparative review of lenses suggested that both the older and newer models were optically similar and that they were 'dull day' lenses, not performing well in bright sunshine.

I conclude that I have only a 0.001% knowledge and understanding of manual lenses so have a long LONG way to go before I can apply for membership to the 'anointed few'! :)

All good fun though...gets one though life with a fair amount of sanity preserved... ;)

A propos the white ones. I remember, many, many years ago on the sale in Poland, seeing a Contax II with Sonnar 1,5/50, both laquered in white. Till today I don`t know if it was an original factory edition or repainted job. One could imagine that f.ex. hospitals required white cameras (easier to see dirt ?).
And Andy, don`t worry about lacking lens knowledge. It`s a kind of mild disease. You can take wonderfull picts knowing nothing about lenses, you don`t have to know anything about ophthalmology to want to look deeply in some girls eyes.
 
Mild disease? Without a cure it seems though, once afflicted! :? ;)
Girls eyes I understand better that lenses...probably... :D
