New camera seems to be working well - the honey bee wings are particularly nice. We have hives here in the rape fields but last year I was set upon while dog walking so tend to keep even further away than before!
Wiener, there are many different bee species, and they are back on the increase I'm glad to say.
Richard, I'm very happy so far. The S10 unit is everything my old GX200 was plus better exposure control from the GXR. The P10 puts that superzoom grin on your face and is fine for web pics and small prints. Being a weight conscious backpacker I'm veering towards the A12 28 as the 'DSLR' IQ lens to aim for. It's lighter at 210g, and I like a bigger depth of field in macro shots than the A12 50 will give unless stopped down to the point where you're not going to get much more light in than the S10 unit gets anyway.
That all adds up to a kit around 750g, which is manageable.
Bees are scary in big numbers! I snapped the honey bee in direct sun when he was still. The bumbler was in shadow, and flapping his wings for balance (you can see where he kicked the leaf to his right as I snapped him). The shutter speeds are about the same for both shots.
hi big guy.....funny you posting bees here. I was tearing my patience to shreds yesterday trying to capture bees in flight with a 5d and 70-200 +2Xadapter. This was the best I could get. Need some expert tuition I think!
Whoah Petach! Put down the big gun and put a nice little tele-macro on. Now take a stroll with me to where the bees are busy round the flowers. Get nice and close with the macro while he's pollen collecting. See how he gracefully flies backwards out of the flower bell and then forwards towards the next.
