Homemade viewfinder

I didn't fancy paying £130 for the Ricoh viewfinder, so I thought I'd have a go at making one myself.
It hasn't got any lens in it, so I don't get the same wide angle view, but it's useful for lining up shots when the sun is too bright for the lcd screen.
After a few practice shots I can get the subject on centre at various distances.
It's useful if I want to take a quick shot as I can see straight away without adjusting my eye to a different angle of view.

All DIY-projects for Ricoh are welcome.
Nice money-saving finder. Hope You will test with some lenses too.

I got a plastic block and drilled it out with a cutter and made a jig with a saw blade to cut the slots evenly.
The cost was about £24 for the cutter and drill vice, and about £10 for petrol to drive to my dads to use his drilling machine, so about £35 alltogether. I can't say how long it took as I spent ages working out a way of cutting the slots and making a few jigs until I got it right.
It was also a good excuse for buying some tools, which I love doing!

A man, & a shed. Fill the shed with tools & idears will flow.
Nice work garry, You got what you wanted.
Can it be masked to get your 3:2 ratio? Or do you just line up a image in the round bit?
And I love your avitar. :)

I haven't tried masking it, I just line up the centre of the scene in the round part. It won't give the whole wide angle view,
but after some practice shots it's easy to get it centred properly.
As there's no glass to change the perspective, I can keep both eyes open and see all around while using it.

You got me thinking garry. I'm going to keep my eyes open for an old flash unit & see if that can be man handled modified in some way for my G600. Its a camera for beaches & water. Hard to use in sunlight. Mmmmmm

If you really want one, give me a couple of days to find how much the postage would be to Oz.
I don't know about an actual price, but I think postage plus about £5 should cover time etc.
If anyone else wants one, let me know by Saturday midnight GMT as I can do some when I go to my parents on Sunday.

Ah, good one, I was only sort of half kidding, but seriously, I'd like to try one. I can send Paypal or maybe another method - what works for you?
Thanks

Hi Tim, postage to Oz isn't as much as I thought, so £6 should cover everything including postage.
If you still want one pm me your address, but no bother if you change your mind.

On second thoughts Tim, pm me your address and I'll send you one for free as I'd like to have someone elses opinion as to whether it's useful or not.
I've got enough stuff to make 3 at the moment, so if another 2 people want to try one, let me know.
