Ok, I love the HiBW setting on the GRD3 and even on the GXR. How do I get it on the GRD4? I am using the latest firmware.
Thanks in advance....Don

Hey Don,

amazing, I was just on that page on Ricoh's site when I read your post -- http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/gr/gr_digital4/features3.html

On the III the HiBW is in scene mode - so you have to turn the main dial to "scene mode".
On the IV its in "Image Setting"s menu item (page 62 of manual) -- http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/support/manual/pdf/grd4/grd4_en.pdf

When my IV rolls up I am keen to try the bleach bypass. I know we can do all this in post process but its fun and quick and easy to have it come out of camera - lazy me :P

Tim, Thanks but I'm not getting it yet. It's frustrating. I set the camera to Raw & Fine Jpeg. Then when I go to HiBW, it doesn't go. If I use B&W which I always do, I see the screen in B&W.
I actually liked it on the 3. All I had to do was just turn the dial when I needed that feature.
Dunno....

Try choosing a jpg only mode and see if it comes up. I'm not sure but I seem to recall in scene mode on the III it couldn't do RAW as well?

Hi Don,

I'm not a RAW shooter but thought I'd take a look at your problem. From what I can see with my GRD4 you can select RAW and B&W (with RAW + JPEG) and the camera does what you want it to do. However, with Hi-contrast B&W it only records a colour JPEG. The notes in P63 are a bit confusing (at least to me) but I think Hi-contrast B&W only works if shooting in JPEG - I suspect it is something to do with the amount of in-camera processing some of the more 'exotic' image settings require - ceratinly the write speed is much slower with these.

Richard

PS, I've assigned image settings to the adjust button as I'm now using them quite a lot.

Thanks guys,
The manual is confusing, thus the reason I never read them.
I set the camera to jpeg only and it works. Not only does it work but I can still use Auto ISO and M mode. I don't recall the 3 being able to do that.
All is well in Philly.
Thanks again
