HELP! Mode dial not working properly

Only got the GRD IV yesterday and after updating firmware, i noticed that the mode dial would not work correctly.
For example when i switch between the modes Program, Aperture, Shutter and Auto, they do not change, but remain in program mode. The only work around is if i hold shutter halfway and turn the from up down dial, only then does the camera change aperture from then on, however this occurs in Program, Aperture and Shutter modes. Manual mode works fine, as does Scene. However there is another issue with the My Settings modes. MY3 works, as does MY2, however switching to MY1 and the camera remains on MY2.
please help, any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi drodenbar and welcome here! I'm sorry to hear about your problem. What you can try is to reset the camera settings back to factory defaults. The question is, if you can do this due to the nature of your problem.

Here is what the GRDIV manual says about the Restore Defaults command:
To restore default shooting menu settings (pages 50–52), rotate the mode dial to 5 and select Restore Defaults in the shooting menu. A confirmation dialog will be displayed; highlight Yes and press C/D to restore default values and exit to shooting mode.

Just follow the above steps and see if it helped or not. If not, another thing you can try is to re-flash the camera FW (repeat the FW update steps). If neither helps, then I'm afraid, you will have to send your camera to Ricoh service center. I guess it's a HW problem. It may be just a coincidence that the mode dial stopped working after the FW update.

happy to report that the issue resolved itself after i fully charged the battery again.
