Hello from Quebec

HI,

I'm Paul, from Quebec City, Canada. I'm a simple amateur photographer. I enjoy taking pictures of ordinary things. Most of my photographs are taken in my neighbourhood.

I've got a GR (the most recent incarnation) one month ago. I wanted a "carry everywhere" camera to replace my Lumix GF1. The GF1 is a nice camera, but it clips the highlights too easily and the noise looks rather bad. The GR has none of these shortcomings. My brief review would be: if you want a small digital camera and if you are happy with a 28mm lens, then you should be very satisfied with the GR. I hardly think about it when I use it, which is the best compliment I can make about a camera.

Please have a look at my Fickr. The most recent photographs (pictures 113 to 132) have been taken with a GR.

Welcome to the forum Paul, there are some quite nice images in your collection.

Have fun with your GR,
Wolfgang

Yep, your portfolio looks promising, Paul. Welcome here and share more photos, please.

Hi Paul and welcome here! There are some nice photos in your flickr. It seems most of them are people-less? Is it just a coincidence or do you prefer to shot places of human activity but without people in sight? Enjoy the forum and your new GR!

Hi Paul and welcome,
I like your style. I tend to do the same, grabbing images of things and places and people that interest me.
I also had a GF1 and found it performed very well in good light but then most cameras do.
I sold it too, it was not for me.

I've enjoyed your flickr images, seems you favour a muted colour look.

Hi Paul and welcome here! Love your photos - great combination of color and composition, hope you'll show more.

Hi Pavel,

Here in Quebec the law is extremely restrictive about publishing pics of people without having their permission. I enjoy shooting people spontaneously in public spaces but it is discouraging to do so, because it is illegal to publish those pics, unless they show a crowd or a public event like a demonstration. And out of principles, I refuse to ask for permission. This explains why the photographs on my Flickr are almost all people-less.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your comment. The sensor of the GR lends itself very well for this muted colour look. It is one of the reasons why I like the camera so much.

Cheers,
Paul
