Hello from Minnesota

Wanted to step up and say "hi". Recently purchased my first Ricoh digital - a used GRD. First version. Software fully updated. Wanted something that was small and rugged. Needed a camera that could hang around my neck while cycling. Or easily pop in and out of a bag. Have an LX3, which is nice, but there are enough quirks to make it not the best in those categories.

Came to digital from using a rangefinder (yes, I have one of those.) The demise of the one hour processor has forced me to use digital pretty much exclusively these days.

Other hobbies include cycling and trains. Got back into cycling a few years ago to lose weight. Always been a "train buff/spotter". Of course, the GRD is not the classic camera for trains. However, it does make one think and compose differently. (Much, if not most, classic train photography was done with a 50mm equivalent lens).

Hi Eric and welcome on board! Hope to see some photos from Minnesota! As a biker you should have a lot of opportunities for outdoor photography? And don't be afraid to post also your rangefinder photos. I'm sure we have several members with ranagefinder as a second camera. I was always eager to get one. But the prices of good rangefinders are somewhat high ;)

Thank you. Actually, don't have any easy way to post my "old" photos. No film scanner. Eventually hope to purchase one. Just have not spent the time doing research to find out what I need.

And yes the prices are high (outrageous?) But I was hooked on that system, so sold my R3 and lenses for a used M4-P. It's been beat up since then, so no real value except as a picture making item. Gives an incentive to just keep it and not "trade up".

This was me too, I also found it hard to get good quality work done from film. Seemed no one cared anymore!
