GXR rubber replacement

With heavy use the glue holding the GXR rubber hand and thumb grips in place gets progressively looser. I've seen people replace their grips with lovely looking alternative materials like in this image below from a thread on dpreview http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3135002?page=1. My question would be, what solvent would be best to use when removing the old glue?

I removed the remnants of the original glue (double-sided glue foil, and the glue itself) without any solvent, just using my thumb and large amount of patience to "roll it off" from the camera body. Afterwards, just before applying a glue to re-attach the (original) grip cover again, I used technical alcohol to degrease both surfaces.

As regards the glue to re-attach the original rubber grip cover, I used Pattex Repair Extreme

(it appears to be available world-wide), which should withstand temperatures from -50°C to +120°C. So far it seems to perform well, however with final judgement of this glue I have to wait till we have higher temperatures for a longer period again.

My GXR grip cover become loose always when the camera was exposed to higher temperatures, without any obvious link to other atmospheric conditions (moisture, salinity, etc.). It was just the high temperature which "melted" the original glue, even without exposing the camera to direct sunlight for a longer time.

I purchased my GXR about two years ago ... perhaps later on Ricoh might have changed the glue (double-sided glue foil) used on GXR body. I never encountered similar problem with any of my two GX100 cameras, exposing them to much more extreme conditions.
