It's a hard disk drive back in 1956... with 5 MB of storage.

In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first 'SUPER' computer with a hard disk drive (HDD).

The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a 'whopping' 5 MB of data.

Haha and I though I'm old remembering the cassette players connected to Atari 8GB memory sticks are nice, but I somehow miss the time when simple 1.44MB floppy was able to hold several good games, tons of documents or even entire OS! I just don't like current wasting of space because 1GB of memory is so cheap. On the other hand, I look forward to dropping the price of SSD disks

Back when I started as an Apple tech in 1983 I did repairs on Apple 5Mb hard drives, but they were more the size of a loaf of bread not like this behemoth. They were mainly sold with the Apple III (yes that's Apple 3 - there were some). We tended to sell network Apple II+ and IIe's with a shared 20Mb 8" Corvus hard drive. Also if I recall the 5Mb drive was usable on the Apple Lisa. I did repair some Twiggy floppy drives (google them) for the Lisa but they only lasted a short while before the 400Mb 3.5" disc took over. Then the Mac 128Mb was released the rest is history.

Better. I wrote a manual on jungle survival/ primitive living and have done some knapping. I would relish it (for about a week).
