GRD IV film like noise?

Hello everyone,

I'm new in this forum and have already a first question;

I have heard that the GRD 1 has a film like noise I have looked much image saples and I think that's right.

But was I also found out is that the GRD II/III with new process engines not more have this kind of grain, especially in the jpg files.

To my question:

I want to buy the GRD IV and is there any possibility the reach the grain of the GRD 1, can you turn the noise reduction 100% off?

Thank you for your replys

Hi,

I think the consensus is that the original GRD is hard to beat when it comes to film like noise and B&W pictures. The GRD 4 does allow you to select noise reduction off (or mild or strong) but I suspect even when it is off the camera is quite good at noise reduction...even pushing the ISO to 800 or even 1600 gives quite good (noise free) results. Where the GRD4 is good is that it has a number of filter or image settings available if shooting JPEG. One of these is positive film (colour) and I like it a lot. It also has a high contrast B&W setting and you can adjust these settings for contrast and sharpeness.

The real solution is to buy a GRD4 and a second hand GRD. I have both and while I use the 4 for 90% of the time every now and again I feel the need to use the GRD....it's a camera I would never sell.

I suggest you look at the GRD4 shots that have been posted and see what you think.

Greeting from Scotland,

Richard
