GR1s Repair Japan

Thought this might be of interest in regards to pricing of the repair of a Ricoh GR1s by Ricoh Japan

Lens was jammed from being turned on while in the case and the finder was cloudy to the point of not being able to see anything ........
$150.00 to fix my camera ......less than 2 weeks out ... service was amazing ....
It is really impressive how Ricoh Japan takes care of its customers ....... :D :D :D

I've heard such good things about ricoh japan, and I would also really like to visit their new ring cube Ginza building. It really is a shame that there is no equivalent in Canada (or most other places). I just gotta hope that my GR1V stays reliable :)

i had a stuck shutter on the original GR1, they repaired it in 2 days flat for about 15700 yen, (about $160). Not only was service fast, but they also upgraded my mode, self timer buttons, and entire on/off button (with the newer and harder to turn on) assembly from the later GR models... and the additional upgrades and cleaning were INCLUDED with the original quoted price for just the broken shutter!

arizona US authorized lab took 2 weeks just to fix the LCD, and didn't do much else!

amazing.

I'm curious if they replaced also often faulty LCD? Funny thing how these "faulty parts" problems repeat? GR1 (all models) is notoriously known (aside its excellent lens and build) for its too often faulty LCD (part or entire LCD stops working after few years). Now a lot of GRDI rear wheels go mad after few years of use. The good sign is that I did not hear or experienced similar problems with later cameras. And my GRDII was used really hard, even under rainy and humid conditions. So I guess the Ricoh quality control and used parts are greatly improved?

They replaced the LCD in both my cameras along with some other parts ..Ricoh was well aware of the weak points and took care of them without me really having to get into to much discussion ..they knew what to do and did it ...got both cameras back working like new .... My impression was they just change out the parts that are known to give problems ..both cameras cost about $150.00 to repair and CLA'd .... Definitely worth it .... Ricoh Japan is awesome ..but you already knew that :)

Pretty much the same experience ...... Customer service in Japan is on completely different level than it is here in America ...I would probably just toss my camera in the trash if I had to deal with getting my Ricoh fixed here in the US of A

It's nice to hear about good experience with Ricoh service. But I still think Ricoh should repair these GR1 "broken" LCDs for free. It's widely known problem affecting nearly all GR cameras after certain time of use. It's like time bomb ticking in every GR1. And it's the same as known issue with GRDI ADJ wheel. Both are common problems not caused by user and both affect the cameras that are out of warranty. But because it's evident design/part fault, they should be fixed for free. Why should users pay for bad design/faulty parts?

I am impressed about what I have read about Ricoh Japan.

I have two GR-1 in need of a thorough overhaul and CLA. And I would like to ship to Japan to get them serviced.

Could anyone kindly share how I can go about doing that? Is there an e-mail address that I can place my queries to?

Thank you in advance!
