GR IIIx resets date/time when changing battery

My GR IIIx resets date/time when I change battery, any easy solution for this?

What happens is that when I remove the battery and put in another, the camera wants me to set the date. If I remove the battery for 1-3 seconds everything seems OK but 6+ seconds means that I need to set the date. Other settings seems OK.

I assume the GR has a capacitor that should keep settings during a battery change, but it doesn't seem to work for the date/time.

I have my GR IIIx 5years and never had such issue and also never heard or read about this. Maybe the capacitor in your GR has an issue? How old is the camera? Do you have a chance to go to your Camera-Shop or to contact the Ricoh-Service?

I think it's about three years old. I did a few searches and it seem to be a fairly common problem, I've even seen posts that says that they have GR IVs with this problem. Yes, there is a repair service that I'll contact when vacation etc is over.

I never had this issue. But in general all electronic devices have hidden internal batteries to keep data saved while you charge the normal battery. With PCs it is the same if you unplug the power cord.

For me it seems that this internal hidden battery is either empty or out of order for whatever reason. I am sure the Ricoh service can help you with that.
