I love this camera! Just a little postprocessing in LR3 with NO noise reduction at all (of course keeping the ISO at 50). Great rendering. Reminds me very much to transparency film.

Second pic looks very good! Very film-like feel. Good luck with your new toy! Feel free inform us about your user experience with this Sigma! How is the AF and low light performance? Boy, how I miss the 40mm focal length! Ricoh should either make the GRD IV 40mm and/or fast 40mm module for GXR.

AF in low light it´s no easy...But if you learn all the tricks using the DP2s in Manual focus, it works. The GUI it´s not the Ricoh´s of course, but I´ve manage to keep it simple. What impress me a lot if the IQ of the pictures working in ISO 50. I can´t hardly see any noise cropping at 200%! The file is clean and offers a lot of room for postprocessing. The LCD display is just for fast reviewing. I have a voitglander 40 mm optical bright viewfinder that fits perfectly in the 41 mm Sigma DP2s, so I frame the picture as the old days of film. And as you said, the 41 mm it´s just perfect (not too wide, not too tele). Attached it´s a sample of hand held shot. The noise at ISO 50 it´s absent!

Foveon sensor it´s amazing! Just one sample of a picture taken when I was still playing aound with my new toy. Honestly, I don´t think any compact camera can beat this IQ. I´m dreaming of a big prints coming out from these files...

Hi Chichornio,
I get the occasional great image from my DP2, I find it needs care in its use and in low light its hard to handhold and get good images but as you say the IQ is amazing, like nothing else. Part of the DP2s success is its lens. In low light I find the GRD III will work where the DP2 can't so both cameras can be complimentary. Hope you get great prints. I am considering the SD1 when it ships!

Well, I still keep my GRD2 for those low-light situations (only up to 200 ISO). But in sunny, bright and even-cloudy-light-days, I think the DP2s it´s a MUST. I had only discovered three of the main set-up that will make your DP2/DP2s even better:
1- Keep ISO up to 100. Shot ONLY in RAW.
2- ALWAYS use MF (as the old days of RF cameras). Only use AF when you want to fool around.
3- Turn off the display! Check the picture after it has been taken.
The Foveon will work as a very expensive PRO camera in this u$S 599 compact camera. And the pics will be antonishing!
Nevertheless, all those advices ONLY applies if you are doing personal photo author work. Of you will probably fired but the company that hired you!

I recently started to do the ISO 100 as in #1. I have always only used RAW. The DP2=RAW if you want any kind of quality for sure. IMO a CX1 does a better OOC jpg than the DP2.

A photog friend who has the DP2 always does #2 and has been urging me to.

I never thought about #3 much. Must give it a try. I kind of need reassurance about shutter/aperture though so I may find it hard to do.

Hi Tim, after receiving my DP2s ( got already first the DP1, than the DP1s and now changed to DP1x) I was excited to figure our the other lens (f2,8, 41mm) and also the newer processor. After using the DP2s for a couple a days I decided to switch my DP1s into DP1x because of the same back and the same processor to easy up my workflow after [just as like as 1 camera with 2 lenses ;) ].
I´m still into the newbie status with both, but I guess I got in some shots the special magic look (3D) already....look at this:

I wish Sigma would give the Foveon sensor to Ricoh to try out.
I'd love to have a Sigma DP, but I'd miss all the features on the GRD, plus the Sigma lens is too narrow for me.
If Sigma came up with a better camera with a viewfinder on it, I'd sell my missus for one!!

I especially like the 1st picture with the tool on the brick. The clarity of the image as well as the small amount of shadow of the tool was well captured. I am just getting into photography myself, so I am no expert. To my untrained eye though, that photo looked good. Are any of you all into making photo cards with any of the photos you take. I am thinking of starting a Christmas tradition of doing this each year. I think taking the photos yourself gives it a special touch.
