I would grab the English user manual and use the control interface counting up/down the menu lines, going into each sub menu as needed.
The language mode is in the setup menu. Its likely the same for all Ricoh's. If you have another Ricoh set in English you could compare the button presses till you get there.
The only other alternative I can think is to find someone who can read Japanese.
Method 1 usually works.
Mmm, not having a CX.
Press OK/MENU
press right to enter SET UP
press DOWN to about the bottom of list until you find LANGUAGE, press RIGHT to enter its menu. http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/support/manual/cx3.html
Hope that helps
 Very tricky Gab . I have a CX3, and can read some Japanese, so here goes:
1. Press the "Menu" button.
2. Scroll over to the setup menu (press "adj.ok" button left then down).
3. Press "adj.ok" button right, then up two times, which should bring you to the "language" setting, which, in Japanese kanji script will look like this: 言語, with the top strokes laying flat instead of sticking up at an angle, as shown here.
4. Press "adj.ok" button right. Japanese (日本語) should be the first item at the top of the list, then next, should be English, which will look like this in Japanese: 英語. So you just need to scroll down to the second item in the list and press the "adj.ok" button to accept the change.
Hopefully, you will now see the setup menu in English. Let me know if you still have any problems changing the language.
Thank you for your help. I ended up doing as Thelps suggested, counting down through the menu options via an English download of the manual (the manual sent with it was in Japanese, lol.)
