My guess is that this is aerial photography of Mountains/hill but not in Suffolk.Very interesting!

It looks like sand on the beach close up, the ripples by either wind or water? :?

Tim got it, its of a beach near Seaton Sluice in north east England, taken pointing straight down and quite close. Its an area where where there used to be a lot of coal mining so there's plenty of black grit on the beaches and I just happened to notice these patterns where the tide had gone out.
