Checking the total shutter count

Blow-in

Active Member
I'm now a GRD IV owner having succesfully bid on an almost new camera (one month old) which arrived yesterday.

I've seen posts before where the total shutter count has been mentioned - I'd be grateful if someone would tell me how to check this as I can't find anything in the instructions.

I've thought long and hard about this purchase....I've been very impressed with the GXR pictures posted but the 'pocketability' of the GRD series won out in the end for me - cost also had quite a bit to do with it plus I can reuse my GC-4 case and GV-2 (which I realise also fits the A12 28mm).

My initial impressions are that the leap from the GRD II to GRD IV is a big one. The slight size and weight differences really are not noticeable. The screen is the first thing that caught my eye - really crisp, bright & detailed. However, I also agree with other commentators that the icon size is reduced compared to previous models and I don't think there is an icon size choice (which you have on the GRD/GRD II). The other big change is either 'sophistication' or 'complexity' depending upon your view point....there are certainly way more options to tailor the system with the IV and I've set-up the My1 & 2 to replicate the II while I find my way around.

I've not really tested the camera yet but the image quality does look to be a big step up too (which was one of my excuses/reasons to buy) although the II was never that well rated by the experts in any case. The whole speed - focus & writing - is noticeably faster.

Looking forward to lots of shooting,

Richard

Switch the camera to Scene mode (camera must be OFF), then press and hold "Disp" + "Playback" button for a sec or two. You should get "ERROR HISTORY" menu. Now press the right (Flash sign) button. This should move you into MECH COUNT display where you can find SHUTTER count. Hope this helps? ;)

BTW, one more press of the Right button should move you into ERROR COUNT display. In the ideal circumstances, you should have 000000 in all counts. But I guess there will be some errors listed? My one week old GRDIV already got OFF ERR: 000001, but to be honest, I did not notice any problem while shutting the camera OFF? So these numbers must be very sensitive to internal FW errors, which may not even be visible to users. So don't worry about them much ;)

Special thanks for "odklizec"
y follow his indications,an i foud the secrets counters on my GXR (it's the same of GRD)
so nice

Pavel,

Thank you - around 500 shots when it came to me so that's good news...no error codes yet.

Looking forward to reading your impressions when you have the time.

Richard

Pavel which is the combination for the GRD III. I tried this one but I can only see the error History and not the rest...

how do you know these instructions ?

Richard, it's pretty low shutter count indeed. Enjoy you "almost new" toy! ;)

Gab, the magic combination for GRDIII is Macro + Playback button. GRD3 has unfortunately not as extensive number of status information as GRDIV. So there is just Shutter count and Flash count.

Sergio, well, it's just luck and few minutes of trying almost every key combination :) But I don't recommend to try this at home, because some combinations of keys can (and will!) freeze your camera. And I don't know what worse some of them may cause!

This works for the GRD II as well (not forgetting Scene mode and camera off before you push the buttons).

Pavel, thanks again for this information.
