Someone was selling one on eBay for $420, plus $60 overseas shipping, it seemed like a lot. What would the price be on a used special edition GRD? I asked how many shutter counts, but they didn't say,

$420 seems to be fair price for limited edition GRDI? The shutter count can be extracted from the photo taken with this camera. It's hidden in EXIF. Ask the seller to take a new photo with this camera and upload it to somewhere or send it to your email. It does not have to be taken in the largest resolution. N640 is enough. If you upload the photo here (or send it to me via email), I can check the actual shutter count for you.

Thanks, Pavel. I've put a request in for a sample photo, but have not heard back. Will look forward to seeing the info extracted, if I can!

Hi Sandy,

From what I see in EXIF and if these two photos were actually made photos, this camera took around 52 normal shots and 22 with flash. It's practically new camera ;) Of course, there is always a possibility the seller performed a hard reset of the camera so these numbers may be incorrect. But the knowledge how to perform hard reset is not something people generally know. And considering the special nature of this camera, I believe these number could be correct.

Wow, how can you tell from the exif? I stared and stared at the information, I couldn't tell where/how this info is available from exif. Is there exif data not shown by Flickr, that you can extract somehow?

Yep, there is a special (Maker's) section of EXIF with private EXIF tags. They are readable with EXIFtool, but most of them will not tell you anything useful without a knowledge what they are for. Some time ago, I experimented with various camera settings to be able understand some if not all these tags. So I discovered the meaning of some of the obvious tags, including this one ;)
