Needed air so went up my nearest mountain over 3000ft today. First time up, though I have been looking at it for 45 years!
It must have been its time...
All with the GRD3.

Hah - I've been meaning to go up that one myself - it has the reputation of being a bit of a slog. Nice posts - I especially like the hint of mist in #1 not easy to capture. Castle shoot soon?

Another 2 & 8 fan here. Nice work and well worth the effort. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful use of fall colour and classic use of 28mm focal lengh which as I recall , was one of favorite for large format landscape photography. ROO36701, the six from the top, is the best example. Near detail and distant horizon in a distinctive and harmonious unity. Well done Ben. Stanis

One more vote for #2. The silver thread of the creek adds life to the scene.

I love the rolling mountains in the (what seems to be an infinity) distance in #3. And how the sun rays shine through and hit the earth in #4. Beautiful!

I like #5. A self portrait?!
Yup, that red-face and hands man is me!
Was a bit moist, cool and breezy up there, but great fun! And no tripod or assistant...somedays it is good just to be free to roam!

And that is where I think the GRD is great, its very little hassle to carry on such a trip.
The GRX with A28 would be much the same looking at your jacket pockets or maybe in the backpack.

Good question Tim. To be honest the GRD3 is much the same as my GX100; if you carry it you don't realise it it there. If nothing comes, not harm done. It is also possible to keep it accessable (coat pocket, belt loop, in the hand...) whilst the GXR even with the A12 28mm does not quite work like this. It would be in the back pack wrapped up safe and warm for sure. But then would it come out often? In these mountain walks frequently the sun, the birds, the mist come good for just a moment. On these trips the GRD stays mostly in my hand. Apart from chilled batteries it comes to little harm. GXR still seems to be more a 'serious' photo shoot trip camera. And then of course the weather won't quite be what you hoped...it could also bloody expensive to repair (a new external viewfinder is not much cheaper than the GRD). This is also a factor in what treatment I give it. So far repair costs to my Ricoh's are a nice round '0'. However, the GRD3 and GX100 have had no repairs whatsoever. The GXR has had a new screen and a repair carried out on the external viewfinder...

I am not happy with the quality of the GRD for landscape shots though! Maybe I was born a few decades too soon?
