I think - yes, it should work as 35ZF is stripped down version of 500G. Differences are in rangefinder which shouldn't change requirements for battery.
They will work in a number of 70's Ricoh compact cameras, as these cameras all have the same lens & light meter. They only differ by some of there features.
The 500ME is by far the most advanced. With features like Range finder, Battery check, Shutter Lock, Auto/Manual, Multi exposure, Film loaded window, Shutter cocked confirmed window & hot shoe. As has a auto winder attachment.
Same lens & light meter. I believe the 35ZF is a zone focusing camera. Still a very capable camera with its Rikenon 1:28 40mm lens
Here is a picture of my 500GX.
Technically, two cameras need also same metering circuit to work on same battery (although, not mandatory....if calibration differ ) http://www.butkus.org/chinon/ricoh/ lists manuals for this cameras and they use same battery, to clear last doubts.
P.S. nice 500GX with rare winder! I have red Ricoh tripod - nice sturdy thing.

Page 11, chapter "Loading mercury battery", point #4 specifies to use 1.3V cell in 675 form factor. Which means it will be happy with 1.4V hearing aid battery with some O-ring to fill empty space. Cheers!
