Ameland

A two-photo stitch of a little hamlet on the island of Ameland along Holland's north coast. I was in the area trying to connect with the landscape of my ancestors. I think this quaint community is actually fairly new.

Climate change and the resulting higher seas and larger storms pose an imminent threat to all of these sand barrier islands.

other than " a little bit bright left side road " , fabulous :)

Yes, aydemiru, quite right. That's a result of bumping up exposure, because it was actually a rainy, blustery day (as anyone in the low countries last summer will remember...).

Any hints as to controlling burnout like that? (I'm a newbie to PS).

What a wonderful place and a very good photo too.
It could really disappear because of climate change?

Oh, Ameland. The Loveley Island where I spent two summer while I was Teen.
And your Photo brought instantly my Memories back.
Thanks for that.

Thanks, all.

Burkhard, lucky you actually spending time on these islands. I was there only 1 day and I fell in love (with the place; I already loved my wife). You were young, but did you get a chance to try the local spirits, Nobel? Incredible. I'll track down a photo.

I'm no expert on climate change, though my research is on community adaptation to climate change. But the IPCC is, and they present a slew of modeled estimates of sea level rise in this century, generally in the 0.3-1m range. Not a good recipe for barrier island stability, I'd guess.

That is a beautiful little settlement, nice and quiet I bet.
The photo is very well done, a great idea the stitch it works well and looks sharp and detailed to my eye.
Not to detract from the photo, perhaps a little blown on the left but nothing too dramatic, I initially assumed it was the sand or stone colour anyway.

I am curious, does the internet stretch to out to places like here? Do they have ADSL or other services?

Thelps, I do believe they have internet on these west Frisian islands. The Dutch very carefully plan for and preserve quaintness, but technology is embraced and well-integrated.

Here are a few more. Not especially good photos, but hopefully evocative for Burkhard. Even ordinary photos can do that.

Interesting to hear you tracing your Ancestors. I've been doing the same the last few months and found I have a lot of links going back through several family lines to Europe.
I have direct ancestors from the UK - (no surprise there) but many from Germany as well, Bremen was one location.
There is a French connection reputedly but I have no direct evidence just anecdotes at the moment.
I could drop family names but am a bit shy to.
My wife's side goes to UK and Isle of Mann. More to find out, its a lot of fun as it takes you places.

I'm in love with the place already! :) Very peaceful and quite community. THanks for sharing your pics!

I suppose people are herding sheep in this place? If they are, this makes it even more wonderful for me coz I'm planning to herd goats here in my farm.:)
