A Ricoh R5 for my wife

My wife is trying to learn some photography, and she likes small and easy to use cameras with wide angle.

I had a look to R4 and R5 cameras because they use the DB-60 battery, like my GX200, and can be found with a good price second handed. Are the R6 R7 much better than the previous models(they use another battery?

I can get a new R8 for 159€, but maybe is too expensive for my economy

If some one want to sell his R camera please contact me

I've had R5 and R6. Both requires some pp to make the pictures shine. I'd say R5 has a slight edge in picture quality over R6, but R6 has a bigger advantage in easy handling. R5 has shutter button priority and can take the picture immediately with whatever focus it has obtained, which always gets the picture, but not always the focus. R6 has sluggish auto focus, especially in low light, and no shutter button priority, so you don't always get the picture, but always with good focus. (I have a bunch of pictures of well-focused chairs without funny cats on them.) You learn to use snap focus or preset manual focus with R6 to take these kind of pictures. R6 has better flash performance then R5, and also a very usable soft-flash setting for nice fill-flashes. The B/W mode on R6 is a scene mode, so you can't change any settings which makes it more or less useless. On R5 it's a color/sepia/BW color setting, so you can use it together with high ISO and get out-of-camera nice grainy low-light B/W pictures. The LCD on R5 is very poor in bright light. It's often impossible to see what you're framing. R6 has some coating that works wonders.

Everything I've heard of R4 is that it's mostly like R5 but with a special "bite" to the pictures that many appreciate.

Hi gsaronni,

I could sure recommend a place to you from where you can buy a one at a cheaper rate. I believe you are from England.

Besides it's been a long time you have posted here your demand and I hope by this time you would have bought a cheaper one for you.

If this is not the case, please let me know.

Cheers.
