A new firmware for GR Digital IV

ah... i don't use it because i use normally iso 80 (i like low iso :D)

do you think is better iso 80 or iso 200 with DRC for pics like tho one with the dog above ?

We have since digital began suffered poor DR (Dynamic Range).. compared to film.

I think you have to evaluate each scene as if to use this function.

So if the lighting is tough ie: a wide dynamic range of brights areas to dark shadows as Richard has demonstrated I would give up some ISO (noise) for a better DR image.
I've often been in post process trying to recover highs or lows. I've often lamented poor DR and its one area that the sensor designers still have to conquer.

Give a nice even light source, low ISO will win every time (unless you have some creative purpose)

I agree here totally with Tim. The point about the GRD4 is that you can use the 'MY' settings rapidly to change from one set-up to another. So in my case I have MY1 set with DRC off and default ISO 80...in MY2 I now have the DRC set to AUTO and the ISO set to auto-hi 400 (and no noise reduction - I only use that at ISO 800 plus). In a case of bright & even lighting I use MY1 generally but when I need more dynamic range and don't want to blow the highlights by exposing for the shadows, I use MY2. Should you want more control, you can set DRC to weak to limit the ISO range but I think the GRD4 performs pretty well right up to ISO 800 unless you are making massive enlargements.

Richard, I'm glad your checking this all out because my iV is in a box at the mo & just wanna hang off a FW update for little bit.
Thanks for the testing & photo comparisons.

As for me, I'm a 100 ISO shooter for all cameras. Film & digital
