Of all the advances in cameras over the years, I like the shake reduction the best. It enables you to save money on a wide lens and still keep the iso down. I’m not keen on many others; its getting too advanced for me. Soon we will just shoot video and pick out the best clip! (on iso 10000.0000 of course)

Agree, The shake reduction certainly has enabled us to get images which we couldn't have in the past. I like that deep blue in this image!

Yes I was going to make this B/W but couldn’t bring myself to lose the colour! I think the blue comes from the camera setting the white balance for the light so making the sky really blue. there is still a bit of camera shake but only a bit. Only photoshop was a slight curves adjustment and a sharpen filter.

Not (at all) bad for a 1/5 Second Shutter Time (from one who knows ... :P ). Shooting hand-held (sometimes with mono-pod) as I do, it would simply not be possible (at the light levels and F-Numbers that I shoot in) without some sort of automatic image stabilization active.

With the Panasonic DMC-LX3, it (may) be that (in Mode 2, where the servo is not engaged until the shutter-button is half-depressed) it is important to give the camera a bit of time after auto-focus is ready for the full effect of the servo to be applied.

I have read a few good reviews of the Ricoh Image Stabilization (which moves the image-sensor), including in reviews of your particular Ricoh camera model.

A couple of the contributor's on this forum indicated that their experiences with Ricoh Image Stabilization were counter-productive. I wonder if there may be a similar "servo settling time" at play (where it may be a benefit to give the camera a bit of extra time after auto-focus indicates that it is ready) ... :?:
