I love natural stone as a building material...and this picture expresses wonderfully why!
Heavenly stuff... :D

Andy,
you have a good eye for the unusual. Great textures in this image. Could work well as a B/W but I think the subtle colours are worth seeing too.

Perfect shot, Andy. The structure and colour of the steps is great with a nice contrast to the deep blue sky reflecting on right. Also the light is interesting, emphasizing the stone surface very well.

A'hem...
I guess I have been a bit TOO tricky with this shot...(although I did intend to deceive in this way...shameful, I KNOW!)
The 'sky' is actually the sea with little floating spots of foam... :? :D
And the 'Stairway to Heaven' is actually heading to hell...or at least down, not up! ;)

Hehe, I was just gonna ask how the H you could get bright stars at 1/160 s.

This is an all star picture if I get to vote. Fantastic! That it is "tricky" makes me like it even more.

Andy it does not matter what it is in fact although naturally we are usually curious how the author achieved such a great result. (After thinking a little on what we see I had found out the stairs are heading down to the water. Also some "stars" are of quite unusual shape to be real when studying them closer. ;) ) What matters is the feeling the photo gives the viewer. Your naming is more than appropriate in this regard. :)

Thanks for the nice comments guys!
I enjoy looking for little gems in everyday locations, and it is all the more satisfying to find something and make it work when (like this one) it is a location which you have already passed a thousand times before and never bothered to stop because, at first glance, everything apears to be ordinary and easily seen.
I think I may well return to this location to try and find a suitable counterpart to fit into a double photo-frame...
:)
