Hummm. stones... can you give me a bit more light about this one, please? ;-)

I'm a bit adicted to megalithic structures. So I'm always excited when I find new places to visit ;-)
 
Rui, I am interested too

Andy, I think the image would be worth a DRi (dynamic range increase) or even a HDR image set. This may lift the detail on the rock and retain the sky and background. What do you think?
 
Can't put my finger on it but I like it :) Reminds me of rune stones and the stone walls in southern Sweden.

This web-link will take you there. On reading the article I find that I have added a 1000 too many autumns to the age of this site...oh well, that is old age for you! ;)

It is a very quiet and calming place to be...a good place to visit if you are in the area, Rui!

Tim, that sounds an excelent idea! As you know the GX100 is not the best at extreme contrast situations and I really struggle to capture what I see in front of me at these locations (although, strangely, the wide angle DW1 seems to help...)
It is quite close to the top of my list for future projects!
I may play around a little with this series of pictures when I get back to my Silkypix in Vienna having failed to make it work effectively on my PC here in the Highlands.
All suggestions gratefully received though Tim!

Hello again Rui & Tim,
here are the 'real' things...or at least the age I originally quoted, that is 5000 years old. These are located on the mainland of Orkney.
I attach a web-link for further information.

Renate and I were there in 2006 though I was lucky enough to previously work there on a couple of occasions and always feel at home there. Indeed the first time I took my mother to Orkney she discovered that her grandmother was born and lived not far from these stones...

In the interest of scientific accuracy, I should add that Renate is 1.84 metres tall, so these stones are no macro objects! ;)

that last image is extrodinary. :o :o
The size and shape is one thing, however as you have captured one of the stones side on - it shows how thin it is.. amazes me, time for another :o and a :shock:

I think including Renate really shows their scale.
Perhaps a Ricoh forum competition could be for "amazing stones!"

Tim,
I agree, these stones are truely amazing and are now, in asssociation with other nearby circles and chambered mounds, form part of the Orkney neolithic UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Well worth another visit I would say!
