2nd Ricoh Forum meet-up - 6.6.2009 - London

Hi Ubez and welcome back! Of course, you are welcome to join us! ;) BTW, nice photo!

Sorry, won't be able to come this time round. But yes these meetups are highly recommended (I was there last time).

Ah that's pity :( I counted with you! OK, so definitely next time for another round of beers! ;)

C'mon...what you mean with drunken chanting???? We drank only four or five (small) beers each...that's nothing for big boys like us? :D

Good news guys! One more Ricoh guest confirmed! Mr. Kodama just informed me that his colleague Mr. Yasunori Naito will join us as well! I think it will be very interesting meetup! ;)

I haven't said anything about going because I haven't made any decisions about it yet. It's a bit hard to decide, as it'll be my last full day in England and I may be leaving behind a teary-eyed mother.

Finally opened up my GX100 yesterday. Not at all as intimidating as I thought it would be and the size is perfect. :D

Hi Socket,

Of course, family at first place! just come for a couple of hours. Who knows when there will be another opportunity to meet such group of Ricoh positive folks and even Ricoh representatives! ;)

It's next weekend folks! Can't wait to see you all! ;) I'm arriving on Friday morning and I will probably immediately visit my most favorite place in London - the Borough Market :D You know, just to take few new pics of this fascinating place, eat some of the delicious foods available there and to buy a new stock of spicy (highly flammable) ingredients ;) I will then visit my good friends where I will stay for two nights and next day is our meet-up! See you soon!

Meet-up details updated with one more meet-up point for those who can't make the morning meet-up. See the initial post.

Depending on the trains, I expect to meet up with you all late afternoon or for supper :)

Great! You can't miss us. Just look for a strange group of people with copy machines and faxes around their necks :D

I hope you all enjoy the day, sorry i cant be there again......and i hope the sun comes out for you all and dont let Pavel drink all the beer in the pub..we need to save some for the 3rd meet up.......M

What about the meetup yesterday??? I expected lots of news about the meetup!
Best regards, Gerd

Well, I enjoyed the meet up although I'm sorry to say I have no exciting news for you, waloszek.

While I wasn't able to wander around Camden with everyone, I did hook up with them at Queens #1 later.

I wasn't sure what to expect, not knowing much about cameras, and uncertain what exactly would be going on, but it was actually a lot easier than I expected - just talk about Ricoh cameras. People had brought a variety of cameras, including the CX-1. There were a bunch of other cameras there, including an Epson R-D1 (with its compass-like dials) and odklizec's GX200 with the TC-1 converter.

Everyone turned out to be very friendly, and very happy to share their knowledge about my GX100 and RAW processing, including the fact that I didn't have to press the power button on my GX before the playback button to view photos, something I missed in the manual - yeah, guys, it IS in there. :D

One fellow was from Ricoh Europe and turned out to be a fellow Canadian, born and bred in Ottawa, a city very close to where I live. It's a small world.

I had a lot of fun trying to interrogate him about what would be coming out soon. I had the impression that everyone had been trying to get the same information out of him all day, without any luck, and everyone seemed quite interested in my attempt. I didn't get very far, but I did end up with a better understanding of how Ricoh is positioning itself in the market. Jet lag unfortunately means I can't remember any of it now, but it was interesting at the time!

It was also interesting talking to the Ricoh fellow and finding out that I was the type of person they would like to see more of, as Ricoh customers. It made me wonder how Ricoh is able to appeal to newbies like me, as most of the information on the Internet seems skewed more toward the experience photographer than the casual user.

After Queen's #1, we went to another pub for food and ended up eating enormous 'American' style hamburgers while discussing what the future held for Ricoh. Definitely not the British pub food Christian had promised us, but quite good, nonetheless.

In all, it was a very interesting evening and I'd recommend it to anyone. Forums are great, but talking to knowledgeable people in person is better! :D

I am a bit behind with writing my report about the meetup and uploading the pictures for it.

It was overall a fun day and we had a great time even if the weather was a bit dull and grey.

Ricoh did not let out much regarding the new camera, just that it will be out this year before November.

As for the promised British pub food, beer and burgers are very British ;) .

I hope to have my report up this evening.

In the meantime you can read Tom's report and see his pictures here: http://ricoh-gr-d.blogspot.com/2009/06/ ... up-20.html

I returned only yesterday (at 4am) and after 4 days of not seeing my daughter, I spent all yesterday with her ;) So I'm behind with my report as well. I hope to post some pics and comments this evening.

Despite the lower number of people (probably due to heavy morning rain) the meetup was great! Of course, we tried to extract some "secret" news from Tohru. But he is very skilled in diplomacy and in keeping the secret. So all we got were some "hmmms" and winks, but that's all. There is definitely something big coming. But only Gods and Ricoh folks know more :)

Unfortunately it's very difficult to do such a trip. I would love to meet you guys, so I also would love to have a correspondance between images and names

Thanks for the link to the blog. I think that red strap has "Pavel" written all over, isn't it? ;)

I'm thinking about a Flickr meeting in my town, for some time ago, but it's been impossible to organize it. Maybe next year, in that case... who knows...
