Women of London

I notice a 'mobile phone' theme going throughout the set, good captures.

The mobile phone culture has REALLY taken off in a way that the manufacturers could only have dreamed of 20 years back.
I bet it would be a tough challenge for a future competion to ask for a streetshot without a visible phone in it... ;)
I did notice that the Minolta MD 85mm photo I have just posted has one being used as a camera in it...no escape!

Totally agree... Actually, these shots were all taken last year; but since then I have tried to avoid people on phones in my photography. It seems that people are constantly interacting with their phones. In a way, they have replaced the cigarette as something for the hand to do, while hanging around on street corners. People often walk straight out in front of traffic while stroking their phones, completely oblivious to the world.

Notice how many of these ladies in the photos are walking along with their expensive smart phone/iphone held in the hand like a fashion accessory? I personally wouldn't do that on account of fear of getting it stolen from me. London must becoming a safer place to live.

Smartphones can also be a way to hide. Sometimes, I'll use mine simply to suggest "See, someone thinks I'm important enough to text / talk to, I am not alone," even though there is no one on the other end.

Still smartphones... Everywhere smartphones... I've just a phone to call an be called, to write messages or read it.
I don't need no more...
Is it really so important to see somethong on Internet when you're in the street.
I prefer having my X100 in hands to catch emotions!

All these gossiping gals with their smarties use it because it looks cool and smart, because it gives them a feel of security ( watch out smartass, I could be talking to my body packed boyfriend who`s just round the corner kind ) and because it became an addiction plain and pure. By the way did everybody noticed the lack of girls on our forum, isn`t it strange?

Actually, I hadn't noticed the lack of women in these forums... Although I am no where near as active as many here. I hope there are female Ricoh fans here. I have a friend who is a Ricoh GRD3 fan, and she is a great photographer; but she is just not so interested in forums.

This could lead to a whole new discussion!
