Why is this happening?

I'm using my Ricoh GRD iv and after about three shots in a row, I can't take anymore pictures and the screen says it's writing images. It is taking an awful long time. I have continuous mode off and can't figure out why this is happening.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

I'm using a SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card.

The writing time only take forever in RAW.

If I shoot in jpeg "fine" there is no delay.

Many camera users suggest formatting the card in the camera before use.
This is recommended for any brand or type of camera.
Before doing this now, you would need to copy off your existing images of course, as you will erase everything on the card when doing a format.
It might be worth a try.

Also try another card of differing speed and/or make if you have one.

There are many fake Sandisk cards, which are made with substandard components or not even the size they pretend to be.
Are you confident its genuine?
Did you buy it from a reliable source?

How long is it taking (in seconds)? - might help comparing that to timing others get also just to rule out it being standard speed for the IV.
I get between 2-4 shots if shooting in quick succession RAW(one after another constant) before getting the writing message. Between the message and screen blackout thats about 2-3 seconds. Not using any high grade SD card, just a cheap 8GB unit.

The SD card is authentic - got it from Best Buy.

In Raw, I can get 2-4 shots in quick succession, then comes the writing message and it takes up to three minutes before the camera is ready to shoot again.

This does not happen when I use the highest "fine" setting. In "fine" i can shoot as much as I want to with no delay.

Its like the camera is doing some other processing to the RAW file perhaps?
Any way to test with another card to rule that out?
Then we can look at what else the camera may be doing.

Has the camera always taken this long or is this a recent occurrence/fault thats just started to happen ?

As thelps suggests, I'd try another SD to rule it out. As in my post above, Im using the cheapest 8GB the store had and only suffer seconds of delay.
Even with jpg fine, RAW is a lot more data to write.
On the latest firmware?

edit:

Read this elsewhere:
Ok, the problem is the continuos shooting mode.
Turn it off and i need about one second to have the camera ready again.
Pretty fast
