When is a Ricoh not a Ricoh?

I'd like to know if I can enter the monthly competition with my Rollei dr5100. My GX has gone belly-up; I can't afford to have it repaired professionally and am wary of buying second-hand again.

I have wondered the same thing David. The boffins that design, the hand that assemble these fantastic cameras not only made Ricoh.
Rollei, Olympus & Ansco to name a few, have sought the expertise of Ricoh for design & manufacture.
One of the stipulations of the competition is EXIF data.

The Rollei's files certainly have exif data, it just doesn't say GX or Ricoh. The manufacturer and model info come out as "DSC Maker" and "DSC".

Well, this is a tough philosophical question ;) On the one hand, it is RICOH, because it was made by Ricoh. On the other hand, it is not RICOH, because it says Rollei. I think it's OK to use it for contest, because it's basically the same camera as GX. In the past, some users posted photos from Sea&Sea, which is nothing else than rebadged GX100/200 ;)

That's great news Paval. I'm gonna dust off the Anscomark M. A copy of the Ricoh 999. ;)

Hehe, now I think we opened the can of worms? ;) I think we should keep this "rule" of rebadged cameras only to digital cameras ;)

Thank you for the decision,Pavel. I'll use the dr5100 as a stopgap until I can find a GX I can afford and which works. That way we shouldn't upset Phil too much!

I own many cameras or different brands, so many of my better images are not taken with Ricoh cameras. However this is the Ricoh forum, so I'm happy to respect the requirement.

I'm glad to say that my ( near-mint yet sensibly priced ) replacement GX has arrived and I shall allow the dr5100 to sit idly by looking cool. Now I just need some inspiration for this month's competition.

My old Ricoh Caplio GX stopped to work. Because for me it was a problem to find a used GX or GX8, I bought ROLLEI dr5100. But I was shocked that HA1 tube is not compatible with dr5100, thread looks to be slightly larger, it is impossible to use it. Can anyone tell me the exact diameter which is on GX/GX8 and on Rollei DR5100?
