want to have a GR waiting for me in Italy

I have decided to finally purchase a new GR, and have not been able to have one brought back to me from the US. My wife and I will be traveling in Piemonte, Italy, in early June, and I would like to buy a new GR beforehand from some seller in Italy or the EU, so it could be sent without shipping costs to our friends in Italy. I'll pick it up when I get there.
The deal I'm seeing on Amazon Italy is 594 euros for a new camera with the regular items in the box (no nice bundles like the ones in the US, unfortunately). I was wondering if any of you know of other options from reputable sellers in the EU or Italy.
Any general advice on this will be very helpful. I don't suppose there will be significant price differences, but I thought I'd ask.
I hope that the day after I buy it, Ricoh will not announce their new environmentally-sealed GR !

Best deal I've found in the UK is 616 Euros plus shipping to Italy so your Amazon price looks OK.

Thanks Richard. Not so sure I'll miss having an OVF, so the price differences are not that significant for the regular kit. Main thing is that I'm missing having a camera, and for the upcoming trip I really need a camera in my pocket.

Thanks Kaver, that looks good! Shipping is an additional 10 euros from what I see, but still the best price.

They don't seem to say what comes with the camera - or at least I can't find it mentioned. So I suppose you received a battery and battery charger? Can you give me a link on the same site for a spare battery? I couldn't find that either. Please let me know what you received with the camera.
Also, did you get an LCD cover for your camera? Is that also available from this site?

Hi quester, yes the shipping cost 10 euros.
With the GR i receive the camera, the strap, the charger, original ricoh db-65 battery, usb cable and video cable. But i bought it 2 years ago. You can buy the lcd cover and the spare battery on ebay.it.
MAKE SURE ABOUT THAT: http://www.ricohforum.com/viewtopic.php ... 157#p64157
I have this one: http://www.ebay.it/itm/Batteria-per-Ric ... 20f14a9e4a

Hope it helps :)

Saw this thread and registerd. lol. Don't buy it where kaver suggested you should.

Amazon.fr has it for about 500 with shipping!

just a quick heads-up!
Cheers from Germany

It's a good price but it will cost 516 euros for shipping to Italy, not 500.. 500 euros included shipping is only for France.
But the price is good

Thanks Kaver and 54z653h - from what I see on the Amazon fr. site, it seems that there is free shipping to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco and Switzerland, but no mention of Italy....

Kaver, do you know how it works in Italy if I order the camera from Amazon France? Are there taxes to be paid in Italy?

No quester. No extra taxes because France and Italy are inside the european union. Don't worry about that ;)
If you buy with amazon.fr you should paid 516 euros included shipping (3-4 days delivered)

Ffordes are listing the GR @ £540 so not a good deal. At the moment the pound is strong against the euro (or more accurately the euro is weak) so buying in the UK for export to the eurozone is a bad idea. I think Kaver's suggestion is very sound at the moment.

Well, congratulation quester. :D
We will all be looking forward to the GR images that your unique style and eye will bring.

Thanks Tim!

My thinking goes like this : I don't believe Ricoh will make the WR GR I would love them to, it appears that this would not be a natural evolution of the traditional "GR" line. They have the small sensor "ruggeds", and the big sensor Pentax WR DSLRs. So unfortunately, no use waiting much more. On the other hand, I still have almost two months before I make the order, and if some announcement of the sort does pop up until then, I'll certainly wait a bit more. I can always sell the GR or give it to a member of the family as a present, if a WR camera comes out later. It might be worth the wait even if they just announce that the new camera will have better dust seals, among other minor improvements.

Secondly, even if some other company decides to grab the niche of a WR GR-like camera, there's no guarantee that it will be as nice as the non-WR present GR. An unfriendly menu, lack of ergonomics, inferior lens, size, etc. - any of these might cancel the advantage of weather sealing.

Three - it just might turn out to be that if I protect the GR well enough, the fact that it is not WR might not be so problematic. Basically it will be up to me to really watch out how I handle it, because here dust is a serious factor. I will certainly be taking it to work all the time, like I did with the PX - I will just have to find the proper combination of case and care that will ensure that it does not succumb to dust. Maybe I'll invest in a longer warranty.

And four - I am missing photography a bit.... ;)

May 1st is the deadline - what will be, will be.
