I like this scratched postcard look. The photo I attach is not great, and I'm not trying to compare it to yours which is lovely, but I liked it because it had this kind of look straight out of the (GRD) camera. Shot through a window of a ski-lift, with a view of some frozen waterfalsl, and the mountains are reflected in the window. How do you achieve this look in PP, if it's not a secret?

Hi sizifo, i still like to shot through the window still :) but most of the time in such situation, i'll be in a moving vehicle, the focus cant capture both the background and the foreground scratches nicely.

so alternatively, which i do, is to collect as much textures as i see daily, from scratch glass, windows, floor tiles, fungus walls, peel paints, rusty pipes, you be surprise how many nice textures exist around us!

so i build up my own texture archive. whenever i need a particular texture, i will layer is over my picture in either "Soft" or "Hard" mode, depending on the luminosity relation between the texture and the actual photo.

for scratches, you can get a grey acrylic board and "abuse", scratch , dirtied it (takes time). then you have the lovely dark/light scratches for your own process.

Thanks for explaining. I like the ideas, and will definitely give them a try. I guess one needs to fire up photoshop and use layers? Do you know of any good smaller (mac) program that has layers? Namely, I've never used photoshop. But maybe it's time to start.
