The Morning Tide

One from today. Back to one of my favourite haunts EVER! :D
Bit gritty/grainy but I wanted to make it a little more abstract than the straight jpeg. With the A16 there is so much more information in the DNG file it seemed a pity not to use that one...

Andy,

yet another great photo, wonderful colour.

With the movement of the boat, I assume this was a fairly low shutter speed?

That's an amazing amount of detail looks towards Hopeman with even the red lights on the radio masts visible...must be over 10 miles away which shows how clear the air is. Lovely long exposure tripod shot.

David,
despite my best endeavours the exif info keeps getting lost when 'pp'ing DNG with Elements 8. Here is the JPG for full info. It also provides a DNG/JPG comparison!
And yes, quite a long exposure.

Richard,
yes, not hand-held, though still practising your breathing out tip!

Andy

PS time should be 7.52AM I fear...

It does not look like a water surface. Rather a giant bed sheet. Great catch, Andy.

Peter, the pre-dawn light was quite special, and the 15 second exposure allowed the wind to ruffle up the sea surface as if it was material, just as you said!

I think when I looked on the map that the lights are over 30 kilometres away. The A16 unit is really quite sharp!

Really fantastic, detailed, moody picture! ;)
Why did you compensate so much? Pushed back up in PP?
Hi Albert,
to be honest I tend to go with what I see on the screen and if it looks too bright I dial it down. The JPEG here does looks VERY dark though, but the RAW file was very similar to the image I posted, which was the efffect I was hoping to create. In the early morning with so much dark areas present, I find that with the Ev set to zero it is very easy to blow the few light areas in the image and lose the colour saturation or details.
I hate over-exposure, but I confess to being too cautious and sometimes making images which are denser than I intended.
Thanks for you comments! Always appreciated.
Andy
PS just cropped a section of the RAW image for interest. The lights hold detail and colour which might have been lost if less minus Ev had been used. With long exposures though a range of exposure settings is the safe way to go! :)
