The Brent, Maldon, Essex

This is the old tug "Brent" moored up at Maldon in Essex. A trust exists to renovate the old girl. THis was a 30s exposure using my GRD3 with a panasonic GF2 flash used as strobe. Shot taken just after 11pm last night.

Thank you Albert. I used a tripod and set the 10 second timer. I exposed on the highlights to underexpose vessel. I wanted the photo to be as close to what I could see with my eyes.....and I am pretty pleased with the result.

I had 3 cameras with me and resisted the temptation to go full frame with the Canon 5d. My Panasonic GF2 is back from being repaired and it is also a wonderful low light camera. I took some shots with that (with 14mm pancake lens) too just to compare. I will include them in this post.

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Rog'.....Thank you, also, big guy! Another bod what cannot sleep at night?

Nice blue fading from the pana!
When you use the flash as a strobe, what remote brand are you using with the Ricoh? Or just cable?

sorry Albert, I should have been more precise. I used the on camera flash of the GF2 to strobe....improvisation eh?

Lovely shots - especially the Thames sailing barges and the Brent taken with the GF2. Did you catch Griff Reece-Jones 'routes' series - episode 2 was all about the barges and included moving a hay stack from Essex to St Katherine's Dock?

Thanks Richard. I actually spent 12hrs on the barge "hydrogen" on the Blackwater Estuary last month. It was glorious! I did see GRJ prog on the barges. It was fascinating.

Peter, #1 is incredible. The lighting is just perfect. Seeing it, now #4 also asks for some front light.

I like the sailing barges, particularly the rigging. There's a timelessness to it. Just wish I could see a bit more water around the boat, to "ground" (water?) it to its context. Lovely images all.
