Hi Don, these presets look great! One question though - I already have LR4, but would you recommend Silver Efex over LR4 for B&W?
This is the $64,000.00 question. A month ago I would have a different answer. Nik Silver Efex is a great product and I have been using it since it came out. Because of that, I never really used LR, any version, for anything other than a catalog. I never realized the potential LR had for B&W conversions.
As I said, a month ago but that was then and this is now. I spent many hours in many sessions and at last I discovered the power of LR. It does things I always hoped it would but never took the time to really try out.
They both have their strong points as well as weaknesses but there is always compromise in anything in life.
The most important difference that can't be overlooked is....... Silver Efex has wonders in it and processes great and when you apply the formula, you get a great satisfaction in the image.
LR4 does the same things in a different way but....and this is crucial!.....LR has HISTORY after you close the image. With LR, you can open the image at anytime in the future and start from where you left off, revert back in history or start new without affecting the image. Nik can't do this. It is the single reason I went to LR for the conversion.
I can't choose a favorite because it would be a jaded decision as I have both.
If I knew then what I know now and will continue to learn, I would be in LR only. I think this answers the question in a fair way.
There is a reason there are more presets in the LR set, it's because there could be.
