Steve Huff comparison NEX7 ./. GXR M mount

Hi,

as expected, the test shots from Steve clearly demonstrate the failure of the NEX7 when wide and super wide M lenses are adapted.

The VC Heliar 15mm is THE testlens for ALL digital M bajonett cameras......and only Ricoh solved the colorshift at the edges.... Chapeau Ricoh!

Adapting M lenses wide than 35mm is useless with NEX cams and as tested earlier, m4/3 cams.

I've been following his site on the Nex7 and the camera does appear to be quite an advancement. However, it seems your best bet will be Sony lenses.

My beef is the size of the files as I'm quickly running out of hard drive space with what I shoot now.

Good to know, the NEX7 is sexy, specially with the built in viewfinder. But my beef with it is is that it is simply too small. GXR is perfect, good build, looks like it can take a knock or too unlike the NEX cameras.

The NEX brings up some possible ideas for another GXR camera back with built in evf. I am very happy with the ergonomics of the GXR but they could be a bit more friendly for larger lenses now that it is possible to fit them via adapters.

Looking at the NEX-7 in comparison we see a larger, shaped grip, and an angled shutter button. Perhaps the button on the GXR could be swapped with the up down wheel and angled? The GXR has a built in flash - again perhaps there is room to replace flash with evf? The body would have to be taller nonetheless. However perhaps the evf could be fitted in a slr-type "hump" and the flash unit retained?

If there was no flash and an eye-switch for the evf then the relocation of only the "Direct" button should pose fewer problems.

Thoughts on how another "Parallel-issue" GXR back with built in evf might look are constrained to two main "types" being "RF-style" and "slr-style". However, either way such an alternate camera back would obviously have to be larger.

I favour a more mini-dslr look and let the size be whatever is necessary to make for good handling - extreme compact? then leave it for the current GXR back which should continue for it is present form as it not a problem even if better suited to smaller lens combinations.

Can the GXR back exist without built in flash for a RF type evf or can the best of all worlds be designed in?

Tom
