Shorter Interval

New Member
Hi!

I love my R10. Best thing is the combination of wideangle und interval.
However i need a shorter interval than 5 sec.
2 or 3 sec would be fine.
Is there a trick? A modified firmware? Can someone modify a firmware? Something else? Maye a remote-control-unit or something?
I really need a solution.

Greetings

Hi kmueller and welcome here! I'm afraid, there is currently no official way or FW hack to shorten the time lapse interval under 5secs. The only thing you can do (don't know if it's applicable for R10) is to try the CA-1 trick described here:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=30559574

But you may still be limited by the mentioned 999 shots limit. Anyway, it would be nice to try it with any of the latest Ricoh cameras. Maybe the 999 file limit for time lapse is no longer applied?

The easiest way is to shoot on continuous mode and holding the shutter button down. I made a device for my GX100 but it clips into the flash shoe which the R10 doesn't have. I've heard of people using a rubber band with a small spacer. I'm sure theres more DIY ideas on the internet.

Bertalan, could you please show a shot of your device?

But, with the continuous mode, pressing the shutter might cause shaking. Is it possibel to use the CA-1 to continuous mode?

BTW, it sucks that Ricoh put down that option in the R series, and now in CX1. Fortunately I can use it with ALL my Ricoh cameras (I mean, when I'll buy it...).

edit: Correction! Now I wonder where did I get the idea that I could use CA-1 with R4? I do remember seeing it as an R4 accessory... but can't say where... and I keep forgetting that I have an R3 too, and I knew that I couldn't use CA-1 with it. Sorry for the confusion!! (but still, why can't we use the thing with all Ricoh cameras???) ;-)

I'm afraid, there is not available any "wireless" solution directly from Ricoh. I believe the CA1 cable release can be used with R10. Or you may try any 3rd party wireless solution found on ebay ;)

Heres a couple pics of my homemede shutter lock down. BTW, the GX100 doesn't heve the 999 limit on continuous, I did a sequence yesterday with 1183 pics.

The IQ of the W60 is Ok as long as its bright and sunny, I guess its the same as all tiny sensor cameras. Its fun at the beach out in the waves with the kids. The timelapse works fine but since there are no manual controls you get alot of flicker. Also I noticed that even with the focus set to infinity, the camera seems to be adjusting something between frames causing the image to move slightly. At first I thought it was camera movement but the same thing happens every time and never happens with my GX100. I am really hoping Ricoh comes out with a micro four thirds version, (the Olympus rumors are crazy these days with supposedly a compact m4/3 coming in June). As long as the basic camera controls are the same as the GX/GRD.

Bert, which firmware do you have on your GX100? I'm on version 1.18 and the 999 limit is there - the LCD shows the 999 limit, and the camera indeed stops there...

Also, in your post from June 12, 2008 (viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1401):

I had previously posted that I had modified my CA-1 remote by adding a 1/8" jack so that I could use a pushbutton on a long cord. I just recently bought this item
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Phottix-Timer-Remote ... dZViewItem
added a 2.5mm to 1/8" adapter and can now shoot at any interval from 2sec to 99hours at 1second variations. Just tried it, works great!

you mention the Phottix Timer Remote; however the link doesn't exist anymore; so just a question: what is the exact product name? I tried to look at their (Phottix) web site but it doesn't seem to be too much "informative" on this. Also, I tried to search your post about modification of the CA-1 by adding the 1/8" jack, but somehow I can't find it now.

Thanks, Martin

Yes, CA-1 works with R10 ... we tried this with one colleague of mine, who has recently purchased R10.

Rui, here is my "rubber solution" for using the CA-1 and continuous mode:

Unfortunately it is not quite reliable, sometimes the sequence stops well under the 999 shots limit (for unknown reason). I decided that from now on I'll keep the "shutter sound" on while "timelapsing" in the continuous mode, to be faster aware that the camera has stopped imaging (I'm referring here to a short gap in my timelapse from 29 June 2009, which occurred in the best part of the sequence).

I also looked inside the CA-1 to see if there is enough space there to add on more switch, which would keep the shutter permanently on (instead of the rubber band), but unfortunately it is quite squeezed there. So perhaps a better choice would be some replacement instead of CA-1, like the one recommended by bertalan elsewhere on this forum (here: http://ricohforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1401).

Regards, Martin

Martin,
I still have firmware 1.14, I guess its a good thing I never upgraded! The only thing I don't like using continuos is that theres no A mode,Well there is but the shutter/aperture is locked. I tried a bicycle lapse but the difference in light levels moving from the forest to open areas is too drastic for one setting. Continuos is good for things like this:

The timer is similar to this, theres probably more out there

As simple as that? It seems a good old Portuguese solution :-D
Thanks!

... and we call it Czech improvisation  In Czech, we label some product as "DoDo" (which stands for "dodelej doma" = finish it yourself at home). This is one of those :D
