Peter, I stayed in the same place for more than a "few" minutes, looking else where while shooting unnoticed to the people around and the kids. My main concern was their parents that were near. I could have talk to them, offering the photos, but didn't took the risk. I did it already, in the past, but people are too afraid and suspicious to believe and accept that there's nothing hide behind a genuine offer... of course I didn't ask permission too, which leaves me quite unconfortable... but I loved the moment and the way the kids could play inside such a "overwhelming" monument
It never accrued to me that St. Peters would be so dark. Was it just the time of day with the sun streaming in that overwhelmed such a large space ?
Another great photo Rui, & congrats on your 500'th post.
Decisive moment, captured with care/pacience, waiting and shooting and letting the scene develop. Lot's people crossing the frame (massive croud inside S. Peter), parents near... fortunately everybody's looking to the building, not to people ;-)
The light is terrible for a camera's sensor. It cannot reach the dynamic range of the human eye, as we well know, and the ligh was so strong with the sun reflecting from the bright floor that there was no other way to do it. I could have try some bracketing, but the kids were moving too much...
