The Scots pine was named today as Scotland's favourite tree (see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-24975451). Quite why this is important escapes me but I took these shots of some Scots pine this morning. Many of the trees are densly planted for commercial timber products - hopefully they still provide a useful habitat but the trees develop a much more interesting shape when well spaced. The March 2012 shot shows this I think.
