Ricoh GR + GT1 - useful or not?

Pavel,

Thanks for the edit update with the GH-3 results. I think the portraits look great (helped by the photogenic subjects) and in situations where the subject is centered and the edges are best blurred it clearly has some utility.

Looking forward still to GR v GXR A12 28 comparison shots.

Richard

Thanks for doing this review. Photos look really good with the converter. Reading this has me on the hunt for one now.

You are welcome folks! ;)

Richard, I will surely do a brief image quality comparison of the GXR A12 28 and GR. I just need to finish some things in next two weeks ;)

BTW, in case you are interested, I tried the GR also with the Olympus TCON-14 lens (1.4x magnification). Sadly, as with previous cameras I tried this lens, it's not very useful with GR. Center sharpness appears to be much better than in case of GR+GT-1, but it exhibits heavy dark corners affecting major part of image. Dark corners are clearly visible even in 1:1 crop mode. It's apparently not build for wide angle lenses ;)

I've finally bitten the bullet and the GR + GH-3 ordered. I've found a GT1 on ebay and it is on the way. Your GT1 findings definitely pushed me over the edge Pavel so many thanks for the info.

Hi Cambell, I'm glad I could help ;) Hope you will find this combo useful. BTW, don't forget to order also step-down ring (49 to 37mm)!

GT-1 arrived today and I'm very pleased indeed. I can't see any downsides to using it so far. There's probably a slight loss of sharpness but it doesn't bother me. I haven't tried it on people yet but here's one of a more co-operative loaf instead.

It looks good! May I ask from where you ordered the step-down ring? Maybe your ring is a bit thinner than mine and this could make a huge difference in case of vignetting.

It was used from ebay. Nothing to identify the maker I'm afraid. I haven't seen any vignetting worth mentioning yet.
