Link to improvements changes and can be downloaded here - http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/support/digital/gr_s.html

Add the following enhanced features (V3.00)

Added [Slight] on [Effect] of [Shooting] menu.
Added [AFL Focus Setting] on [Key Custom Options] menu.
Added [Ambient Brightness] on [Setup] menu.
Added [Folder Name Setting] on [Setup] menu.
[Change Shutter Speed] will be set in increments of 1/3 steps when [ISO Step Setting] is set to [1/3EV].
Added [Aspect Ratio] to the parameters of [RAW Development] on [Playback] menu.

I have read something saying that when the new Ambient Brightness setting is set to Original, the camera tries to mimic the lighting of photos from film GR cameras. The default setting of Normal leaves the lighting unchanged. RAW files taken in Original mode can be developed with Normal lighting in-camera, but the opposite does not apply.
Need to make test to clarify it...

Interesting, maybe...
But what does that mean exactly ?
And what could be the "lighting of photos from film GR" ?
Whatever, 100% of my images are made by DNG, so... Will it make a notable difference ?

If you use the RAW file the "effects" do not apply to the RAW file, jpg only.
These modes are like a in camera RAW processor (LR / Aperture etc) with just a few fixed parameters that output a jpg.

I will use them for some fun but shoot RAW as well - I seem to recall reading that a few of these modes I believe don't allow for jpg and RAW when in that mode it only outputs a jpg.
I know "Bleach bypass" will do both RAW and jpg. I will have to research on this.

Even in the raw files you see the effects of the ambient brightness. I tested it this weekend (even Ricoh Germany asked me to test it). There is a gentle s-curve applied and a light vignetting. I was quite surprised to see it hard baked in the raw files.

Thanks Wouter, I didn't know about that one.
I'm going to do some test files and check it out also.
Seems there are some conditions applied in some cases.
I will try to compile a list of conditions for effects modes for here.
