Earlier in the year I bought a R1E new when legacy stock was still being sold by the dealers and recently had its light strips replaced under warranty. I count myself as fortunate, but there is at least one major drawback to this model: it lacks the 24mm f/8 wide panorama lens that the R1 and R1S had. Other than the extra thousand yen for the 'S' model, I know of no other differences between these three models.
For reference the R1E has the following features:
30/3.5 prime lens
Film 35mm 135 cartridge
DX up to 3200
Cartridge view window
Pre-Wind
LCD counter
On/Off button
Shutter button
AF confirm LED
Flash charged LED
Normal and Panorama crop mode slider (sprung to reset to normal unless actively slid to panoramic)
Brightlines for Normal and Panoramic (no parallax correction)
Flash Mode Button: Auto, Red Eye, Flash Off, Flash On, Slow Synchro. Reset on power off/on
Timer Button: Normal and remote/timer
Mode Button: Normal (Multi-AF with backup 2.5m snap), Super Night Mode, Infinity Mode, Single AF Mode (pre-focus)
Recessed mid roll rewind button
1/4" threaded tripod mount
Champagne painted plastic body
1x CR2 battery
No date function
Case
