Questions to A12 28mm owners

Hello,
Ten days ago I received my GXR with P10 module
After fully charging I took nearly 130-150 photos.
And two days ago my A12 28 module arrived.

1. After firmware update and fully charging I only took 30-40 photos!!!
2. When I start the camera the screen shows the scene in blueish tones just in 0.5 second and then turns to normal tones.
3. When I turn the camera from a dark scene to a bright scene camera's aperture closes to balance the light but during closing the aperture blades the screen freezes just for very short instants.

A12 owners, have you ever experienced the above event?
Thanks

Hello,

Ad 1) The P10 delivers a lot more photos than the A12 modules. At one instance -- it was from evening to after midnight -- I could take more then 1100 photos without the battery being exhausted. Conditions: no flash, only EVF, no use of LCD screen (or little use, I can't remember anymore...).
The A12-28 should deliver between 200 and 300 photos under normal conditions (and EVF).

The numbers of images that you report are far too low -- I would like to suggest that you check the battery (or compare it with another one).

Ad 2) I did not notice this phenomenon

Ad 3) I did not notice this phenomenon, but there was an exposure problem under such conditions that was addressed with the latest firmware update 1.36. You may want to check your firmware version (now also available via the menus).

Hope this helped a little bit & best regards,
Gerd

Unfortunately, the GXR A12 battery performance is not stellar. The battery is just too small for large APSC sensor. But it should definitely last longer than just 30-40 shots. I usually don't have a problem taking 100+ photos with A12 modules. The question is, how do you use the camera? Do you have enabled power saving that turns the LCD OFF after certain period of time? LCD is huge power drainer and keeping it ON all the time is a certain way to quick battery death ;) In any case, I recommend to get spare battery. It's a very good idea for any camera, but it's a MUST for small ASPC cameras like GXR, where the battery is usually much smaller and less powerful than the batteries in DSLRs with plenty of space for larger battery.

As for your second problem, if you see it every time you turn the camera, then it's definitely not normal. Like Gerd, I did not experience anything like that, so it sounds like a unit-specific problem. Do you see this phenomenon only with the A12 module? Are you sure the camera has updated both the body and module FW?

As for the third problem, I probably know what you mean and I'm afraid, it's normal behavior. Bright/shadow camera compensation is not as smooth as it should be, but I never found it a problem. In other words, I never found the light compensation changes in steps a serious problem to be bothered with ;)

Gerd and Pavel,
Thanks for comments and advices.

Today I took 30 photos and battery indicator is still showing full (I hope battery will develop its performance after more charging), but today I ordered a spare battery as well.
I am planning to buy VF2. I think it will reduce the power consumption of GXR.

I am chasing my second problem. For the moment it is stable.

I am also glad to hear that "the reaction of LCD related to aperture opening/closing issue" is common. It does not disturb me much, too.

Hope to post some GXR photos soon:)
