Queen Mary 2

After the tragic circumstances surrounding the Costa Concordia there is renewed interest in monster passenger liners. Despite their size they seem somehow , on rare occasion, to get jammed between a rock and a hard place. The Queen Mary 2 is supposed to be the largest. The harbour mouth was recently widened and deepened to cater for these monsters. My wife and I got up at 4am and drove to the harbour to see the Queen Mary 2 enter. Lucky we left as early as we did because the ship came in an hour before advertised time :!: . Also, access to the harbour, is now very restricted; after 9/11 security was massively upgraded and also Durban has become a major entry point for hardcore drugs for SA and neighbouring states. WRT photography I have a lot to learn about the GRD 3; much different from the GX100.

Very nice series Chris. The GRD III is a powerful instrument and you use it well. My favorite is the-H2 with beach, small boat harbor and amazing big building morning skyline.I hope you had a good breakfast after your early morning photo series :)

Very nice set Chris, I find the second one particuarly beautiful also for the colors.

Hi Genster,

Hi Peter,
Funny you should say this; that's exactly what my wife and I tried to do. There are many restaurants in the area but none were proactive enough to be open. Any one of them would have done well as there were lots of people hanging around. Possibly a staffing issue at that time of the day. Thanks for comments; much appreciated.

Hi David,
Thanks for comment. Much appreciated.

Hi Gab,
Thanks for comments. Much appreciated. I have a GW2 wide conversion lens for the camera but because of the lack of light and my inexperience at fitting it, I had to abandon trying and instead ran up the bank to fit the ship in the frame. The ship was moving quite fast. Such is photography.

Really like the colours and the early morning light in these ones Chris. Noticed a few early risers there with their long lenses too. :D

you captured the incredible size of the ship well chris  though i dont think i would like to sail on her - i would lose my way i'm sure :D

last image is great too ... also like the guys t-shirt

Kort .

:)

4am, quite early you got up and I thing it was worth of it.
By the way, why were the water cannons squirting water in the #3 shot?

Peter

Beautiful - lovely morning colours :) . My favourites are the second and fifth shots - well done ;) .
