Here`s our beloved GR. I outfitted it with filter adapter to protect the lens barrel in rough going but I forgot about LCD. No Gorilla glas protection and believe me, no 500 pound gorrilla sat on me. I had it in my coats deep pocket and probably a keybunch in my trouser pocket somehow pressed bit too much against LCD. Well then, it looks GR is no street fighting machine. (my old Niko F for sure was). Lessons?
Just be careful with GR in loose pockets and bags, otherwise buy or make some LCD protection, and it better be stiff ( I think mine will be alluminum or kevlar  . That`s what I`ll do when I get it back from repair ( hope it won`t ruin me) and meanwhile no entries with GR for time being  . Stanislaw
p.s. so happy to have my old A12 28 with me

Of course, no need to deny, when I saw GR in the morning I felt for a moment like the pumpkin below. Stanislaw

Ouch Stanislav, I'm sorry for you! A small consolation: Leica has already shown us. They have abolished the display at the Leica M Edition '60th anniversary return to basics' .... and it costs only 15,000 Euros
Cheers,
Christian

No pain no gain. Next move ACMAXX! ACMAXX! Chrisnmn, is there ACMAXX specificaly tailored for GR or you have to cut it to the size?
Christian, I would LOVE Ricoh do the same. Imagine, clear clicable f:stops on the lens ring, shutter speed on the top, ISO in the back. Thyat`s all I need.
It`s in a way crazy that Leica produced a model that would appeal to hardcore photographers and which they should price less then 240 because of lack of LCD with that sapphire glass and all that buttons but instead they made collectioners item that will gather the dust in the safes.
p.s. Richard, that`s true pockets were bit too tight and talking about that regions- when I saw crashed LCD for a moment I had a wish me balls getting that treatment instead.
Then I of course got reasonable thinkink - boy you can get that LCD replaced, while not being so sure for alternative

Stanislaw,

I feel your pain. Sorry about the breakage.
Hope you can get it fixed and back into service.

Cheers.

Oh shit. The look of that lcd reminded me about fireworks. Most digital cameras have very badly sensitive lcd screens. Hope it is not gonna cost too much getting it repaired.
There are some nice rugged Ricohs though. The Ricoh Caplio 500G / SE, Ricoh G600 and the G700. I'm not a big fan of the last two however as they have smaller sensor, 1/2.3" respectively 1/1.8" in 500SE and also slower aperture 3.5 respectively 2.5 at the wide end of the zoom which is 28mm. The last two also uses more NR which can't be turned off and there is no PDAF. In general to me the only really good about em are the size and the longer zoom. The 500SE may be considered somewhat big and bulky but is a pretty nice camera to use. Based on the Ricoh Caplio GX8 which have same 8mp sensor as the first GRDI. It have the classic look and feel in the images which reminds a lot about the GRDI, GX8 and the R3 rather than the newer Ricohs like GRDII, GX100 and R5 which Ricoh began to hunt noise with.
There used to be at least a small bunch of 500SE users at Dpreview forum and also here at Ricohforum. These Ricohs are often almost crazily priced on Ebay unless it shows up in usual auctions. There is one seller though which have 5 and various condition. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ricoh-Caplio-50 ... 27e6df53f7
