Visited Rohace recently (and enjoyed the "walk" on Banikov, their highest peak), the west part of High Tatras, northern Slovakia.

Perhaps not so easy on a windy day...but what a thrilling walk! Thanks Peter, for letting us join you on your adventure!

Peter,
this brings me back memories of many, many years ago when I was there myself ... Nice shot, nice place!
Ahoj, Martin ;)

Thank you all for your kind interest.

Andy, it was a kind of special day. The clouds almost touched the tops. When we set off down, the very tops disappeared in them and were no more visible that day. The temperature up there might have been only slightly above zero C, but almost no wind, hardly some breeze. Although no sun, the trip was really great.

Spectacular shot and location! Which hardware?
Albert, it might have been photographed with Nikkor 18-200mm on Nikon D90. I will check.

Martin, thank you. I like that area much, too, though having not much opportunities to drop in and enjoy more frequently.

By the way, who does not know "ahoj" is our typical greeting (not only) in mountains. So ahoj all. :)

I am pleased you found the photo interesting, Tim.

Now that you mention it, I find this area seems to have a feel or look that is unique.
The colour of the plant life and that rock under pressure from what I believe is the Africa plate pushing northwards to form these mountains.
I am fairly sure this is the general tectonic action in this area - unless some expert is here to correct me?

I feel as its a barren place but I suspect it teeming with unique forms of life.
Whats the weather like on these mountains? Hot in summer freezing snow in winter?

Great photo Peter, I could get vertigo if I look at it for too long :)
Thank you, David. Suffering from vertigo and climbing such slopes is not a good combination. The fall might be quite long. :)

Nothing bigger living up there has been seen if we do not count a few ducks and hawks. Yes ducks live nearby because there is a half-dozen of glacial lakes up the valley though they are rather small.
You are right about the general weather conditions. Mainly the upper mountains part sure suffers from snow, ice, and consequent avalanches during winters lasting up to 6 months a year. However the summers, I would not call them hot when compared to your summers down there. Although, 20°C is reachable during summer windless days and when one is climbing during such a day it feels hot like in the hell. :)

Thank you, Gerd. A great experience when standing on the very top, too. The only disadvantage is you cannot sit and enjoy the endless universe alone as there are many people all the time.
