No More Canon

I've used Canon for years, most recently S90 + S95. More recently I bought a GRDIII and so far love it. Admittedly my shots aren't as good as from the Canon yet, except b/w, because the camera seems to need more attention / skill. That is one of my reasons for buying it, to learn a bit more. I recently tried the Canon Eos 550D, which I know is a different species but I wanted to compare IQ. RAW straight from the camera at same ISO is better from the GRDIII IMO. The 550D flash [auto] is better at keeping the colours at close range where the GRDIII blows them.

I'm learning the camera so any tips are good tips! One thing that annoys me is the lens ring screw not being flush with the ring, does that get anyone else? On the bottom left of the ring if you're looking face on.

So, here are two links, my site and my publishing house - I publish artists books / photobooks.

Hi Craig and welcome on the board! You are right about the GRDIII learning curve. It may take you some time to master it and especially to make yourself comfortable with the absence of zoom. But I'm sure you will nail it down soon! ;)

As for your problem with the ring screw, well, I never noticed it's not aligned with the ring surface. I examined the GRDI an II rings and they are the same.

There are some great photos at your web! I'm sure the GRDIII will perfectly suit your style of photography. Enjoy it!
