Hi,
I'm new to Ricoh. I have to admit, I came from a world with Nikon and Canon. Didn't know anything about Ricoh (are you talking about the copier machines?) until last year my friend bought a Ricoh GX200... I was suggesting him to get either a Canon G10 or Panasonic LX3, so I got shocked with GX200.

Few months back, I got a chance to try out his GX200 for a photo outing, as my own dslr was sent away for annual checkup. So, it's kinda weird to stand in the middle of big guns with this small compact camera. Here are some photos from my first ever outing with a compact camera;

Just 1/2 day, and I fell in love! Love the user friendly buttons (i don't even read the manual) with super fast access to settings. Love the superb black and white mode, love the 1:1 ratio, DNG raw file and wow, the macro mode!!

Well, here I am, as ignorant as I can be, I'm now a proud owner of Ricoh GRDIII.

I shoot anything that catches my attention. I like landscape and travel photography. Prefer street shooting too but always get shoo away before I can click my shutter

Hello everyone!
Greeting from Malaysia.

Hi Jady and welcome on the board! Great photos! When first heard about Ricoh cameras I was too surprised. What? Ricoh fax and copiers can take photos? ;) But once I tried one (GX8) I felt in love. They are simple to use but include some very powerful photographic features, not to forget excellent lenses. I hope you will enjoy this place and your fresh new GRDIII!

welcome :) your photos are jaw droppingly awesome! amazing images indeed. I bought my ricoh because of the control interface as well. post us some more!

Hi, thanks everyone! I do hope I can contribute and share more photos in the future. I read a lot from this forum before I decided to buy GRDIII. So, really thanks to u guys here for making big contribution as Ricoh educator :D
Meanwhile, I will test run the camera this coming weekend. Hope I'll be invisible with Ricoh!

Jady,

my first contact with Ricoh Digital ( I did remember them from enthusistic people and their film cameras in the 70?s)
was when i was convalescing and surfing Flickr when tied to my bed. I wanted a stand-in and possible improvement to my Olympus C5050z.
I had tried Olys sp series and was not impressed. I came across the photos of "Klavierchen" on flickr with the GRD1. Check out her work .
Then came "Mmatsuba" with the GX100, very impressive great pictures. Gilles Pinault too on Flickr and last and definitely not least Wouter.
Anyway to cut a long story short after 30 days in bed I e bayed and bought a GX100 new from Hong Kong. Now over 2 yrs with the GX100.
The GX100 is no replacement for the c5050z ,but it does other things better so really both cameras complement each other.
I use the GX100 most times because of the size, feel, controls and the way it is so great to compose with. The files it makes are
very good for PP with Rawtherapee and GIMP. But the old Olympus C5050z is not beat yet!
Next camera-its a money decision between ELP1 from Oly or the GXR. Depends upon how much cash I can save! I'd like to have both really. :?

All the best

paul

Welcome! :)

Why did you decide to go with a GRD III instead of the GX200 (since this is the camera you tried out?).

Paul! Thank you so much for sharing, very nice photo collection! I'll add you to my flickr.

Socket: Before I tried out GX200, I came across Ricoh's GRDIII presentation by Mr Martin Shock on an annual photography exhibition Aug last year. The photo quality is very impressive, prime lens with big aperture and very good high iso performance. Prime lenses and wide angle are always my favourite. So, GRDIII catches my attention the moment Mr Martin took it out from his pocket.
After I tried GX200, I realized Ricoh designer makes their camera feel so natural in your hand. Other than the control interface is the built quality. My friend dropped his GX200 on hard floor from few feet high, not a dent, just very tiny little paint chipped mark.
I prefer good ISO performance camera, so this is one of the reason why I get GRDIII instead.

luca: thanks!
