Hi everybody,

I am the proud owner of a new GXR with M mount. I got it from a friend who never used it as he didn't have any M lenses. Neither do I...!

I have realised too that M mount lenses are really really expensive. So, I thought about getting a .. is it called a m39? type lens and an adapter from China.

My question is, will the addition of an adapter alter the lens focal length? For example if I have an old 28mm lens, what would this 'act' as on a GXR APS-C camera?

Also, finally, how long do you think these cameras will be supported for? I was thinking about getting another module but am worried that already the system is defunct.

Thanks for your help, Janey x

Hiya Janey, and welcome to the Ricoh forum. I'm not sure what you will get in mm 35 equivalent for that lens.
There is a lot of discussion here on the forum http://www.ricohforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=5545 about lenses for GXR
I just went with a 39LTM to M mount adapter and a 42m to m mount adapter. That will cover a lotta lenses.
Have fun with your new camera.

Hi Jane.

You can use just about any manual focus/manual aperture lens from 35mm film cameras that you can find an adapter for. Of course the physical sizes of the lenses will vary depending on if they are from SLR's or Rangefinder's. I am using vintage Pentax(SLR), Nikon(SLR) and Agfa(Rangefinder) lenses because they are what I already had or they were inexpensive but good quality.

Any 35mm film lenses like these will be 1.5 X their original focal length when used on APS-C. So your 28mm will become a 42mm lens. The adapter does not affect the focal length, it just reproduces the correct flange focal length for the lens on a different camera body. So the image is correctly focused on the sensor, which is in a different position compared to the position the lens was originally designed to focus the image on.

Enjoy your GXR and M Mount. The possibilities with it are just about endless.

Thank you both so much. I'll get ordering some adapters and lenses. Quite excited now! Janey x

Good for you! I suspect the GXR will retain a degree of cult camera status in the future...so investing a little in the system is unlikely to bring regrets!
What else do you shoot with at the moment?
Glad you've seized the moment...enjoy!
Andy
