New GXR shooter

Hello, all.

My background with "pocket" cameras has been with the Sigma Dp1 which has horrible handling but when treated right pays huge dividends in IQ.

I recently picked up a new GXR P10 kit based on reading some great things. It's fast and responsive. Feels great in your hands. I love it, but for a few reasons I'm now going to sell it and move on. Size wise, it's bigger than the DP1 so I don't find it as pocketable. WIth the P10 module, the IQ isn't as good as well. I'm handled a GRD in the past and have found it to be much more pocketable and I think I'm going to move on to a GRD IV.

If anyone has any arguments persuading me otherwise, please share :)

Hi Roger,

Is it just the size of the GXR that is the problem or is it the IQ of the P10 lens module? If your only option for the GXR body was the P10 then I can understand that the larger size of the GXR body could be a bother. But have you thought about the M mount option along with a couple Voigtlander M mount lenses? You would have the IQ you're looking for and a bit more flexibility in a fairly small foot print compared to other combos. Or even the A12 28mm or 50mm lens modules would surely give you the IQ you may be really looking for. Granted the 50mm A12 module would be a bit bigger than the 28.

But if you were strictly looking for a camera with decent IQ that can go into your front jeans pocket, then I can understand your reluctance to keeping the GXR.

Hi Roger,
if it is pocketable you are after, then the GRD is the best choice. However, if it is top IQ you are after you could sell just the P10 and invest in a A12 28mm? Then give the GXR a real try before going for the GRD IV...
Your shout though, I would say! ;)

Looks like he's already put it up for sale.

Yes, I had noticed thanks. But the P10/GXR combination was, in my opinion, always a bad idea, so it would be a shame to judge the GXR on such a combination. Pricewise, an A12 unit won't be much different from the GRDIV I would think, especially if you sell off the P10 unit. Just my opinion though...
How do you rate the P10 yourself Duane?
All the best,
Andy

I don't have it. Just the A12 28mm. I haven't had it very long so need some more time with it. Down the road I'm expecting Ricoh to follow their lens road map. So we should see an APS sensor based zoom very soon. If that happens I will probably buy it vice buying the M Mount since I don't have any M mount lenses.

If an APS zoom doesn't happen then I will get the M and some longer M lens like the Voigtlander 40 and a 50 maybe even the 75.
