Hi all.

We don't have Ricoh dealers in Canada -- how sad.

So about 20 hours ago, I ordered my GRD3 from Pop Flash and I just received it! Impressive. Kudos to FedEx but especially Pop Flash -- that company's service is FANTASTIC. Highly recommended. Tony & Alex -- thank you.

About me... I'm a long-time user of a Nikon DSLR and, previously, a Canon AE-1 Program film SLR. But I wanted something simple, grab-and-go, but high quality. I have a Fuji X100 on order, but who knows how long that will take! The Ricoh GXR wasn't out of the question, but in the mean time, the GRD3 seemed like it may fit the bill. Who knows... maybe when the Fuji comes, I'll be loving the GRD3 so much that I'll send the Fuji back and save the $700 difference!

I shoot art and abstract but am hoping a hi-quality but simple camera might inspire me to shoot more B&W and street as I did with film a long time ago. I also enjoy pano stitching and I have a soft spot for 1x1 photos also.

Happy to be here. Thank you, all, for this resource. Gotta charge this camera battery now... I'll share something later.

Regards,
Darren.

Hi Darren and welcome on the board! Nice to see the registration email went through in the end ;) Looking forward to your photos. I think the GRDIII is no match to Fuji X100 (when it comes to image quality), but it can still serve you very well. No matter how small the X100 is, it's still huge if compared with the GRDIII. You will quickly realize that the GRDIII is much more suitable for everyday carry. Enjoy the forum! ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum, don't forget this months theme in the competition area is Abstract.
The image has to be taken on a Ricoh so you are good to go now. :D
Cheers.

The GRD III is a wonderful camera, not least because you can carry it everywhere, in all seasons. Just change your keys and wallet to another pocket and you are set to go!!
Welcome to the forum :D

Yes, the X100 may not be as obtrusive as a DSLR, or even a Leica M, but it's not palmable. The most palmable (yet proficient) camera I have used has to be the Fujifilm FinePix F11 (or the others in the F10 to F31fd series). The size and ergonomics are just perfect for it. The late Fujifilm models F300EXR and F550EXR, plus the Leica/Lumix equivalents, offer an alternative approach of very long stabilised lenses in a small unthreatening package allows you to snipe from a distance. It has not the visual impact of a wide angle shot, but sometimes necessary and the cameras will shoot wide too. I must say I prefer the F200EXR though. It's a similar size to the GRDs, pocketable, palmable, has excellent low noise, outstanding dynamic range and a reasonable long optical zoom; better in most ways than a GX200 and even a GRDIII. Of course, the Ricoh GRDIII is such a pleasure to use, so intuitive, responsive, has reliable snap focus and just plain delivers that it still most often finds its way into my pocket.
